Several aspects of ASPs that are particularly relevant to the go-it-alone entrepreneur. First, thousands of inexpensive ASPs are now available for almost every imaginable business activity: human resources management, sales management, financial management, customer service, e-mail, sales, marketing, purchasing, collaboration, and much more. In essence, there is almost no service that cannot be outsourced via the ASP model today. This explosion in ASPs has made them the backbone of the go-it-alone business. A successful entrepreneur decides on the type of business to enter, and then leverages his or her skills through extreme outsourcing to multiple ASPs. Second, the ongoing development of ASPs is one unstoppable trend that levels the playing field between big companies and firms run by individuals. Small businesses can now compete with big businesses. Third, even more sophisticated time-saving ASPs are on the horizon. One of the principal benefits of ASPs is their ability to manage complex tasks and free the solo entrepreneur to focus on what matters most. In an interview with CRMIQ (www.crmiq.com) for its online site, Michael Doyle, chairman and CEO of Salesnet (www.Salesnet.com), an online provider of sales tracking and customer-relationship management (CRM) services, cited multiple benefits of ASP use by smaller firms: • Faster return on investment: Because the online model can be “deployed in days or weeks—not months or years,” with minimal training time, customers see a fast return on their spending.
